Experience

Hello, this is Utang! I am especially excited to tutor because motivating and helping young people and students succeed has been rewarding in my past undertakings. In varied experiences with different age groups, my policy is to set self-driven learning by using incentives with the younger ones and high expectations with the more mature ones. I currently tutor 2nd grade students in Reading and writing in classroom at Drake Elementary and Middle school My dedication in the past has been to help close the racial and socioeconomic academic achievement gap in elementary through high school grade students. I served as a full-time tutor at MATCH Charter Middle School in Boston, where I taught 6th grade math and bolstered weak reading, writing and vocabulary. I worked consistently with five students every school day throughout the whole year, diagnosing deficiencies and tailoring activities to solidify basic math skills. Also, Under the Americorp service program I improved the skills of 10th to 12th grade students by facilitating group discussion and instructing in chemistry, biology and advanced algebra and geometry at a local high school. I assisted fifth grade students who were struggling with math at another elementary school. Here in Chicago, I have worked with elementary and middle school age children. I volunteer tutored with first graders at By The Hand Club for Kids after-school program, which targets low performing students by providing math and reading homework help. As a lead tutor at Posh Tutoring Center in Bronzeville, I accelerated student learning and reduced behavior problems by incorporating online lesson activities to motivate student driven learning from 2nd to 12th grades. I tutored in ACT and ISAT test prep at different levels. At Carter G Woodson Charter middle school I supervised an after-school 6th grade student remediation program by detecting learning gaps and designing lesson plans to bolster math and literacy skills. I promoted strategic instruction that equipped students with skills needed to complete homework independently and accurately while reducing behavior problems by enforcing merit and demerit system to increase student motivated learning. Additionally I have helped with high school levels, with standardized Test Prep tutoring for Biology and Chemistry portions for a 12th grade student preparing for the Georgia High School graduation test. And, as an Undergraduate at Georgia Institute of Technology, I worked for a year as an education intern serving teachers at Tri-Cities High school in A.P. calculus and physical science courses. My duties included classroom-lecturing, development of logic sharpening activities, hands-on science activities 10th -12th grade students, and one-to-one tutoring sessions in chemistry. Furthermore, my tutoring experience includes the undergraduate level, I have helped continuing education students in the math lab at Kennesaw State University in the subjects of Calculus I and Algebra & Geometry. I currently privately tutor a local university student with writing and editing papers. And I am helping two high school students in A.P. Calculus and a grad student in Chemistry My experience with adult students include writing editing and essay composition. I also coach on test prep. I took and passed the Massachusetts Basic skill tests for Teaching and excelled in the GRE. I scored a 1120/1600 in the SAT, when it had just Verbal and Quantitative (no writing portion). I am especially excited to tutor students as I know my experience combined with my motivation to help young and older people succeed. My commitment to tailor lessons to strengthen weak areas make a difference in my current tutoring pursuits. I have tutored elementary students taking the ISAT, currently I am tutoring in Tera Nova prep class.

Hobbies

I am an avid reader, I enjoy interval cardio exercise especially Zumba and like pilates strengthening as well. fortunately, I have been blessed with a christmas gift of Zumba home workout so that's fun. I am involved in church activities at the moody church in Chicago. I enjoy reading to enrich myself with preference for autobiographical stories, historical fiction and dramatic fiction/fantasy books.
